MODEKO, whose operations were transferred to Nobel Expo and renewed according to the agreement, which is vital for the exhibition to gain a more significant position in the international arena, will now be held with the joint signatures of two companies. Murat Şaroğlu, one of the founding partners of Nobel Expo who has been organizing furniture exhibitions for more than 20 years, and his team will carry out the management coordination of the exhibition.

MODEKO, the 33rd International İzmir Furniture Exhibition, will open its doors at Fuar İzmir between 2-6 March. MODEKO 2022 will debut cutting-edge furniture models. Metin Güreler, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Office and Business Furniture Industrialists Association (OFISMOD), said, “MODEKO is a must for us because people want to touch the furniture, feel its comfort, and experience its quality in person.” Stating that people had to spend more time at home due to the pandemic and the need to change living spaces had increased, Güreler added, “There was an increase in furniture sales in Turkey, and export demands came one after the other from all over the world.”

Target: “6 billion dollars of exports”

Reminding that Turkey had risen six ranks and is in the eighth place in the world furniture production and exports, Güreler continued his words:

“We realize 3% of the world furniture exports. The increase in raw material and freight prices experienced throughout the world due to the pandemic caused the foreign market interest to shift from other countries to Turkey. We work very hard, and if nothing unexpected occurs, we will reach the targeted 6 billion dollars of exports in 2023. For this to happen, we must increase our exports by producing high-quality furniture with a high added value.”

Güreler pointed out that as Agean Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association, they have taken a good step towards production with high added value, and said, “We organized a competition called ‘Game Changer Design Competition.’ We received a record number of applications under the theme of ‘Design the Home Offices of the Future.’ In the competition, we aimed to get innovative workspace furniture designs. For 2022, we initiated the ‘Design the Smart Furniture of the Future’ competition with the theme of ‘SMART.’ With these efforts, we will make İzmir the Milan of Turkey. If we can achieve this, we will be increasing exports as well.”

Invitation to the Exhibition

Güreler stated that as OFISMOD Association, they will be attending MODEKO expansively and said, “Last year, we participated with 24 companies. This year we already have 34 participating companies; our number will exceed 40 until the exhibition.” Emphasizing that the exhibition will contribute to the furniture industry and the country, Güreler said, “Sectoral problems will be addressed, important business connections will be made among competent designers and manufacturers, and qualified visitors will be hosted. Also, thanks to the exhibition, the tradesmen, hoteliers, taxi drivers, and restaurateurs in İzmir will benefit alongside the furniture manufacturers. We expect everyone to take on responsibility.”
